The Butterfly House: A Complete Remodel in Great Hills
Every so often, a project comes along that feels truly special, not just because of the transformation itself, but because of the collaboration, creativity, and intention behind every decision. Our recent complete remodel in the Great Hills area, affectionately named The Butterfly House, was exactly that kind of project.
A Transformation with Purpose
Located in one of Austin’s most established neighborhoods, the home already had great bones, mature trees, and a sense of quiet privacy. What it needed was new life, spaces that felt intentional, elevated, and aligned with modern living while still honoring the character of the neighborhood.
The vision for the Butterfly House was centered on transformation. Much like its namesake, this home underwent a full metamorphosis: from layout and flow to finishes, function, and feeling. The goal was to create a home that felt luxurious yet livable, refined but warm.
THE BEFORE:
Builder-Led Precision Meets Luxury Craftsmanship
A huge part of what made this remodel successful was Jenny’s role as a home builder. Her expertise and leadership set the tone for the entire project. With a deep understanding of construction and an uncompromising eye for quality, Jenny guided the remodel from the studs outward.
Equally important were the luxury real estate trades she brought to the table. These were not just vendors, but trusted craftspeople, experts in their fields, who executed every detail with precision. Each trade played a key role in elevating the final product. The level of craftsmanship throughout the home reflects that intentional team-building from the very start.
Design That Balances Beauty and Function
Alisa was instrumental in shaping the design of the Butterfly House, ensuring the home didn’t just look beautiful, but lived beautifully. Every design decision was made with flow, usability, and timeless appeal in mind.
In Alisa’s words:
“We love nice things, especially when it comes to a home. But we also had to save wherever we could, so I did things like purchase lighting from local outlet stores and source a beautiful white oak vanity with a Carrara marble top that looked custom but wasn’t. We added wallpaper for even more character. Then at the end of the day, our amazing stager came in and completed our vision.”
That approach allowed the design to feel elevated without being wasteful. The result is a home that layers thoughtful splurges with smart savings, creating spaces that feel curated, personal, and approachable.
From the overall layout to the smallest finish selections, the design was guided by how people actually live in their homes, how they gather, relax, entertain, and move through each day.
THE AFTER:
Why We Call It the Butterfly House
The name Butterfly House carries special meaning for us. Beyond symbolizing transformation and growth, it was chosen to honor the previous owner, who deeply loved butterflies. As we worked through the home, butterflies seemed to appear everywhere. There were butterfly motifs in nearly every room, subtle reminders of the care and personality the home had held for many years.
In that way, the remodel was not about erasing the past, but about respecting it while allowing the home to evolve. The Butterfly House represents thoughtful change that builds on what came before, creating something new while honoring its history.
A True Team Effort
At its core, the Butterfly House is a testament to collaboration. Jenny’s leadership as a builder, the skill of her luxury real estate trades, and Alisa’s design vision came together to create something that none of those roles could have achieved alone.
