The summer season is known for bringing extreme temperatures to Central Texas, but with all of the fun outdoor activities that Westlake has to offer, you’ll be feeling cool, calm, and collected throughout the hottest months of the year. If you’re looking for ways to keep your family entertained, I’ve put together some great ways to spend your summer in Westlake.
Boat Around Lake Austin
Soaking up the sunshine, feeling the wind through your hair, and grooving to your favorite music are just some of the best things about spending an afternoon on a boat. Rent a boat for an afternoon and explore what makes Lake Austin so beautiful.Paddle Board/Canoe Around Lady Bird Lake
If you plan to spend an afternoon on the water, the only thing that could make it better is a great view. That’s exactly what you get when you choose to paddle or canoe your way along Lady Bird Lake. You can even choose to follow a paddling trail or chart your own course.
Hike the Hill of Life
Along the Barton Creek Greenbelt, you’ll find the Hill of Life Trail, a 1.2-mile trail that has beautiful wildflowers and some great activities. Fair warning that the hike up is sure to get your heart pumping, but the hike down will be much easier, and a nice cool down from the intense workout the hill put you through.
Take the Dogs to Red Bud Isle
Red Bud Isle is a well-known lakefront off-leash dog park with 13 acres of recreational space for you and the dogs to play in the water, run around, go hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. Your pooches deserve a summer adventure, too!
Do a Little Shopping and Eating Downtown
South Congress Avenue and the 2nd Street District are some of the most popular shopping areas of Austin and for good reason. You’ll find some unique items and a ton of great local businesses to support. If you’re shopping on South Congress, stop by the South Congress Cafe or Vinaigrette for a bite to eat, and if you’re shopping in the 2nd Street District, check out North Italia.
